Sussex Walks
These walks from the village of East Dean in West Sussex offer a mix of woodland trails, hill climbs, and rewarding views across the surrounding countryside.
The shorter of these walks climbs Court Hill and follows the West Sussex Literary Trail through peaceful woodland before returning to the village, where a welcoming pub awaits.
The longer route extends this adventure further into the woods, taking in Graffham Down and a section of the South Downs Way, providing a more strenuous but scenic loop before heading back to East Dean.
Both walks are perfect for combining exercise, fresh air, and a relaxing pub stop at the end.

Walk information
This is a short, but quite strenuous pub walk from the village of East Dean in West Sussex. The walk heads north of the village and climbs up Court Hill where you can expect some nice views.
It then follows the West Sussex Literary Trail into some woodland for a while before heading back down the hill to the village. There's a pub in the village to enjoy after your walk.

A perfect Sunday morning walk starting and finishing at the Star and Garter. Great views of the Downs. First hill was a bit steep and might be tough for some but then fairly level. Thank you!
A really enjoyable walk and lovely views from the top of the hill with a bench to sit on! Will definitely be doing the longer walk to see more of the woods
Walk information
This second route from East Dean is an extension of the first route that also heads up Court Hill and then onto the West Sussex Literary Trail.
However, it then takes you much deeper into this vast area of beautiful woodland and climbs right up to the top of the Graffham Down where it joins the South Downs Way for a while before heading its way back down to the village.
It's quite a strenuous hilly walk in woodland so please go prepared.
