These walks around Benbow Pond in Cowdray Park offer something for everyone, whether you’re after a gentle stroll or a more energetic adventure.
The shorter route is perfect for a family outing, beginning at the picturesque pond where you can feed the ducks or enjoy a picnic, before wandering through open countryside, a young tree avenue, and the peaceful John Cowdray Arboretum.
The longer route builds on this, taking in the same highlights but adding more hills, undulating countryside, and a visit to the village of Easebourne with its charming pub - ideal for a well-earned refreshment.
Along the way, the trail passes a golf course, so do take care and be mindful of golfers while enjoying this varied and scenic area of West Sussex.

Walk information
This is a short and gentle family-friendly walk in some pretty countryside inside Cowdray Park.
You will park by the pretty lake where you can enjoy feeding the ducks or have a nice picnic.
Then, the short walk takes you north through some open countryside before taking you through a young avenue of trees that was planted in 2012 and then through the lovely John Cowdray arboretum.

Perfect short walk on a sunny day with a bit of a hill for exercise! A nice child friendly one and take some food for ducks.

This second route option is a longer and much more strenuous adventure that explores all the lovely undulating countryside that you'll find in this area of West Sussex.
You'll still enjoy the pond and arboretum from the first walk, but with this route you'll also get a lot more hilly walking through pretty countryside and a visit to the village of Easebourne with it's charismatic village pub for well earned refreshments.
Please note: The route also takes you on a public footpath that passes through a golf course, so please respect the golfers on this section and keep an eye out for flying balls!

Very enjoyable. Good paths and accurate instructions.
This was a lovely walk with lots of lovely views. There were a few parts that were confusing - you will walk through a field with horses that feels like you shouldn’t be there, but it’s part of the footpath, and in the golf course the GPS couldn’t track the footpath very well and at times it took us through peoples games of golf. We stopped at a lovely pub at mile 5. Worth doing, not buggy friendly. It took us about 4 hours and worked out at 8 miles not 6.75.
