Sheepwalks Hill sits in the countryside just outside Enville, a village in south Staffordshire on the county boundary, south-west of Wolverhampton. It lies on the road between Stourbridge and Bridgnorth, and our circular walk starts by the church of St Mary the Virgin before heading out past pools, woods and the hamlet of Compton to the hill itself.

Enville has plenty of history. It appears in Domesday Book, and it is best known for the grounds of Enville Hall, home of the Grey family, Earls of Stamford and Warrington, which were described as one of the most spectacular gardens in the Midlands in the 19th century. The village is also known for its cricket: its ground was once rated superior to Lord's in 1857 and was used for a qualifying match in the 1979 Prudential World Cup.

The walk has two moderate climbs and a gentle feel overall, with Temple Pool, Upper Spring Pool and several named woods along the way, and The Cat Inn is close to the start. For more routes like this, take a look at the Staffordshire Walks app.

A lovely walk through the countryside to the south of Enville, with Sheepwalks Hill as its highlight.

It begins at St Mary the Virgin church and soon passes The Moors and Temple Pool, followed by Essex Wood and Lyndon Covert as the route starts to rise.

The first half of the walk is a steady climb and will lead you towards the hamlet of Compton and then along the quiet Sheepwalks Lane, enjoying great views along the way.

You'll then enjoy walking amongst the sheep as you climb over Sheepwalks hill itself, before then descending and then retracing your steps back to the start.

The Cat Inn back in the village is a great welcoming spot for post walk refreshments.
