Himley Hall and Park sits on the edge of the Black Country, close to the village of Himley in Staffordshire. The Hall began as a moated manor beside the medieval church and was a home to the Lords of Dudley for more than four centuries. Today it is a Grade II* listed Palladian mansion, with a coffee lounge and free art galleries in the south wing.

The park covers around 180 acres and was landscaped by Lancelot "Capability" Brown in the 1770s. His great lake, the Great Pool, is the star of the walk, fed by a chain of smaller pools and cascades that you can follow through the woods and open parkland. Along the way you pass the Model Village, the church of St Michael and All Angels and the old village of Himley, where two pubs offer food and drink.

Our Himley Hall walk is a short circular route of about 2.5 miles, with one steady climb and plenty of water and woodland. It suits a relaxed morning or afternoon. For more walks like this, take a look at the Staffordshire Walks app.

Circular

Himley Hall is the centrepiece of this gentle parkland circuit. It began as a moated manor and was long the home of the Lords of Dudley, before a Palladian mansion replaced it in the 18th century. The walk starts and ends beside the Hall, with the Gallery Café and the museum close at hand for the finish.

Much of the route follows the landscape shaped by Capability Brown. You pass the Model Village and the broad Great Pool, then the village of Himley with its church and two pubs. A steady climb through woodland and open parkland leads on to the quieter chain of pools, including Rock Pool, before you drop back towards the Hall. Bank holidays can be very busy here.
