Countisbury Walks & Route Maps

This short walk is just over the border into North Devon and includes wonderful views of the East Lyn Valley and Exmoor hills.

The route includes Winston's Path, a hillside track named after Winston Singleton who was the Warden of Watersmeet for 34 years.

Along the way, stop to explore the Wind Hill Iron Age fort and maybe a bite to eat at the Blue Ball Inn.

There is a short section of waking on a fast road near the pub, so please be careful here.

A lovely circular walk around the hills just outside the small village of Countisbury. The walk takes you along the South West Coastal path with beautiful views overlooking the sea.

The area is surrounded by the Exmoor moorlands which merge onto the cliffs, creating a dramatic view. There is an option to walk along to the Lynmouth Lighthouse which is cut into the cliff and here you can get amazing views over the Bristol Channel towards Wales.

Always be careful near the edges of the cliffs. The walk does have some steep ascents and descents but the reward is worth it.

There is also an option to stop at the nearby pub 'The Blue Ball Inn' which adds half a kilometre or so onto the walk but is worth it.

This scenic walk is the longest of our Countisbury routes, offering a variety of terrain and stunning views.

You'll enjoy panoramic vistas of Lynmouth and the Bristol Channel along the South West Coast Path, as well as tranquil oak woodlands and riverside trails near Watersmeet, showcasing the diverse beauty of Exmoor.

Be prepared for some hills along the way, and note that the paths may become muddy and slippery in wet weather. At the end of the walk, why not visit the Blue Ball Inn for wellearned refreshments.
