Ramsden Walks & Route Maps

This relatively short walk starts from the lovely peaceful village of Ramsden, (meaning ‘wild garlic valley'), which sits at the north-east edge of the Cotswolds.

This easy walk takes you to the charming village of Finstock, with its picturesque stone cottages typical of the East Cotswolds. Explore the remnants of the ancient Wychwood Forest and visit Holy Trinity Church, where poet T. S.baptised Eliot was baptised in 1927.

You will travel through the delightful Topples Wood and on to the small hamlet of Wilcot passing the little church of St. Peter and Wilcote Grange on your right and the pink-washed manor-house - Wilcote Manor. There is a very small amount of country road walking.

For refreshments stop off at The Royal Oak in Ramsden.

This longer walk also starts from the delightful, quiet village of Ramsden and travels to Wilcote (see walk 1). From there you will travel on to North Leigh where you can visit its interesting church.

This walk is mainly on footpaths and some quiet lanes. Towards the end of the walk you will wander through the lovely Coneygar Copse and Holly Grove where you can see the clear water of Lady Well. In late May/early June, you will see an amazing show of bluebells.

There are pubs at both Ramsden and North Leigh for refreshments.

The walk follows country lanes, open fields and woodland edges. A pleasant, varied walk, allowing for a refreshment break when you reach the half-way point at the pub in the village of Leafield which serves bar food and real ale.

Alternatively at the end of the walk there is The Royal Oak in Ramsden. There is a small amount of country road walking.
