Northwood walk 01
Northwood Short Circular Walk
- Walk distance
- 3 miles
- Time
- 1.5 hours
- Route type
- Circular
A short, compact woodland circuit from Northwood, on the northern edge of Darley Dale in the Derwent valley.
This is an area shaped by lead mining, quarrying and the railway, and that working past gives the area its character. Peak Rail's Rowsley South station is close to the start, as is Stancliffe Hall, the Tudor-style house rebuilt by the engineer Sir Joseph Whitworth.
The walk has some steady climbs and as with all woodland walks, it may require suitable footwear after rain.
