Hall Dale Walks and Route Maps

Hall Dale lies on the hillside above Two Dales, a small village a short way from the A6 at Darley Dale in Derbyshire. The area has a long working history. High-grade pink gritstone was quarried here by the Stancliffe Stone Company and carried off by a narrow-gauge railway, and the wider Darley Dale district grew around lead mining, forging, the railway and quarrying.

We have one circular walk here on the Derbyshire Walks app, a short route of about 2.4 miles. It starts from a layby and climbs steadily, with a steeper, more sustained pull in the second half, so it is a moderate outing for its length rather than a stroll.

Two Dales itself has an unusual story. It was once known affectionately as Toad Hole, and the name changed around the time Darley Dale was renamed. Wear sturdy footwear, check the weather before you set out, and allow time to take the climbs at your own pace.
