Set within 2,500 acres of rolling parkland and woodland, Hardwick Hall provides a magnificent backdrop for these walks across the National Trust Hardwick Estate.

Both routes wander through fields, beside ponds and lakes, and along wooded paths, with views of Hardwick Hall and Hardwick Old Hall rising proudly above the landscape.

The shorter option offers a varied circuit with one notable climb, while the longer of the walks ventures further into the surrounding countryside with more ups and downs and sweeping valley views.

With gates, occasional muddy stretches and livestock in some fields, sturdy footwear is recommended - and you can round off your visit with refreshments at the estate café or explore the Hall and gardens if time allows.

This very enjoyable walk around the beautiful 2,500 acre National Trust's Hardwick Estate will take you over fields, through woodland, around ponds and beside lakes.

If you can take time to visit Hardwick Hall and it's gardens (there is a charge). The Hall was built between 1590 and 1597 and was the home of Bess of Hardwick.

There is one quite steep climb and several gates on this walk. The paths are quite good but some are likely to get muddy after wet weather. The walk crosses fields with livestock, so please keep your dog on a lead at all times.

This slightly longer walk takes you around the beautiful countryside North East of the Hardwick Hall Gardens and Estate.

There is quite a lot of climbing with a variety of ups and downs but this will reward you with some spectacular views of Hardwick Hall and Hardwick Old Hall from the far side of the valley.

There are several gates and stiles on this walk. The paths are likely to get muddy after wet weather.

The walk crosses fields with livestock, so please keep your dog on a lead at all times. There is a small amount of road walking on a quiet road as you walk under the M1.

Refreshments are available in the Cafe at the visitor centre.
