West Itchenor Walks & Route Maps

Our first West Itchenor walk explores the shifting edge of Chichester Harbour.

It begins past Chaldock Marsh, where creeks thread through saltmarsh and grazing marsh, part of this nationally important coastal landscape.

The route then follows the broad sweep of the Chichester Channel, a main tidal waterway linking the harbour to the Solent.

The route then loops back to West Itchenor, The Ship Inn and the Quarterdeck Café provide welcome stopping points, rounding off a relaxed harbour-side wander.

The longest walk offers a fuller circuit of Chichester Harbour’s shoreline.

It also begins past Chaldock Marsh, where tidal creeks wind through saltmarsh and grazing land, then follows the open sweep of the Chichester Channel, a main waterway linking the harbour to the Solent.

About halfway round, the route reaches West Wittering, with a pause possible at The Landing café or The Wittering pub.

Boats and moorings dot the water as the harbour shifts with the tide.

The final stretch returns to West Itchenor, where The Ship Inn and the Quarterdeck Café provide a relaxed finish to this long coastal walk.
