Seven Sisters Walks

This first walk around the beautiful Seven Sisters area is a lovely short loop that avoids much of the steep climbing found on some of the longer routes.

The walk follows the Cuckmere River towards Cuckmere Haven and the beach, before looping back through attractive countryside with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the local scenery and wildlife.

There's also the option of a short detour to a riverside pub along the way, making this a great choice if you fancy combining your walk with a relaxing pub stop.

This alternative route is another short and relatively flat Seven Sisters walk, avoiding the steeper climbs found on some of our other walks from this car park.

The walk takes you down to the beach at Cuckmere Haven, this time following the opposite side of the Cuckmere River, before returning along the Vanguard Way to the west of the river.

There's plenty of opportunity to spot local wildlife along the way, and the route also passes a lovely riverside pub, making this a great option for a relaxed family walk and day out.

This third route follows part of the first walk but adds a much more energetic section across the famous Seven Sisters cliffs.

One half of the walk is a peaceful and relatively flat stroll alongside the Cuckmere River, while the other involves a steep climb to the top of the cliffs followed by a hilly stretch along the South Downs Way and over Exceat Hill.

Walking clockwise means tackling the more strenuous section first, before enjoying an easier riverside walk back towards the pub for a well-earned drink or something to eat. Alternatively, walk anticlockwise to enjoy the flatter riverside section first, before taking on the steeper climbs during the second half of the route.

Whichever direction you choose, please take extra care around the cliff tops and keep well away from the cliff edges.

This epic and varied walk takes you through some of the most beautiful landscapes in this part of East Sussex.

Along the way, you'll enjoy a peaceful stretch beside the Cuckmere River, tackle the climb to the Seven Sisters and follow the spectacular clifftop path, before heading deep into the woodland of Friston Forest.

There are plenty of hills to tackle, so be prepared for an energetic walk. There's also a riverside pub along the route — walk clockwise if you'd like to save it for a well-earned stop towards the end, or head anticlockwise if you'd prefer some refreshments before taking on the more challenging sections.
