Friston Forest Walks and Map

If you like woodland walks then Friston Forest is a great place to explore. It forms part of the South Downs National Park and as it’s close the Seven Sisters it provides the option to combine the forest with the lovely Sussex coastline for an action packed fun day out. Friston Forest offers a variety of walking terrains and different areas to enjoy including woodland paths, energetic hill climbs as well as scenic picnic areas. There is also a pub close by if you fancy a detour for refreshments. Here is a route map for one of the 4 Friston Forest walks we have on the Sussex Walks app.

Friston Forest

Our first walk around the majestic Friston Forest is a relatively easy 4.75 mile route for all the family to enjoy. Although there are some hills and inclines which take you over Friston Hill, it’s not too strenuous.

Our second walk is 6.5 miles long and is basically an extended version of the first walk. The route takes you on a journey through Friston Forest but also visits the Sussex village of West Dean which has a pretty church. The walk then goes down through the Charleston Bottom valley and back up Snap Hill into Friston Forest again. This is a walk with hill climbs and is a more energetic route, so please go prepared.

The third Friston Forest walk extends the previous walk even further and is 8.5 miles long. This route also heads north to visit the pretty village of Litlington where you can find a pub if you wish to take a well earned break during this long, hilly walk. After leaving the village, you head to the wonderful Lullington Heath Nature Reserve with it’s chalk heath and grassland before looping back into Friston Forest.

Our last route is a great 10.25 mile adventure walk that takes in all of the best bits of Friston Forest and the surrounding area. On this epic route you will explore the beautiful woodland, visit the village of Litlington, explore the Lullington Heath Nature Reserve and the lovely valley of Charleston Bottom. This walk is very long, so please have alternative navigation (printed map or app on another phone) and only use the app when absolutely necessary to conserve your battery life.
