Hastings is a town in East Sussex that’s famous for the 1066 Battle of Hastings. It’s also got some lovely walks with great views. If you are looking for a nice easy stroll or something more strenous, including a visit to Hastings Castle, we have a few circular walks for you to enjoy.

These walks range from 1.25 miles to 3.5 miles.

We have four Hastings circular walking routes on the Sussex Walks app of various lengths. The first walk (1.25 miles) is a nice simple family-friendly coastal walk around the town of Hastings. This is the least energetic of the walk options we have from this start point, as it doesn't climb up the cliffs. Instead, it walks along the sea front and visits the pedestrianised George Street with it's cafes and bars.

This second Hastings route (1.5 miles) requires a lot of energy as it climbs right up to the top of the East Hill cliffs. You will of course be rewarded with some fantastic views when you get to the top though. As with all coastal walks, please be careful when close to cliff edges. There are plenty of eateries on the seafront, just off the route.

This third Hastings walk (1.75 miles) heads in the opposite direction to the second route, heading west from the car park. It also has a lot of steep climbing and requires a lot of energy, as it takes you right up to the Hastings Castle on the West Hill clifftop. As well as visiting the castle grounds and enjoying the views, the walk takes you along the lovely pedestrianised George Street with it's pubs and cafes, and visits the Hastings Lighthouse on top of the hill.

This final route (3.5 miles) is basically the ultimate tour of Hastings and combines the best elements of the other routes all put together. You'll visit the Hastings Castle, enjoy the views from East Hill, visit the lighthouse, stroll along the seafront and enjoy the eateries of George Street. As with the second and third routes, there is a lot of steep and strenuous climbing on this route, so come prepared with lots of energy!
