Beacon Hill Walks & Route Maps

Beacon Hill walk, Sussex
Beacon Hill · Photo: Paul Gillett

These walks around Beacon Hill offer a wonderful mix of hilltop views, coastal scenery, and village charm.

The shorter route takes you to the summit of Beacon Hill Nature Reserve, where wide vistas and a historic windmill await, before looping through the village of Rottingdean with its cafés and pubs.

The longer walk builds on this, extending east towards Brighton Marina and returning along the undercliff path by the beach.

Both routes combine the beauty of Sussex’s coast with a touch of local history and plenty of spots to pause and enjoy the scenery.

If you have a lot more time and energy, then this longer version of the first walk is a great option to explore the coastal area to the east of Brighton.

It still enjoys the views and windmill of Beacon Hill, but it then takes you on a walk over another hill towards Brighton Marina.

After exploring the Marina if you wish, you'll then walk back along the undercliff path alongside the beach until you get to Rottingdean. There, you can get refreshments in a number of eateries before climbing Beacon Hill again, via the windmill, to finish the walk.
