Adderbury Walks & Route Maps

This short walk takes you on a fascinating tour of the historic village of Adderbury, which is divided into East and West by the Sor Brook. The village has a rich history dating back to at least 990.

In the 13th century, the village and surrounding lands were divided between four manors, with the Bishop of Winchester later giving the Rectory Manor to New College Oxford. The Church of St Mary the Virgin is a stunning architectural feature that dominates the village.

This walk follows pavements and quiet village roads, with a section on an unsurfaced track and across a playing field. There are no stiles or kissing gates, but the route includes steps, a narrow footbridge, two ramps, and a staggered barrier.

This walk starts from the charming, historic village of Adderbury and gives you beautiful views of three parishes' churches.

On the way you will cross through charming undulating farmland, passing by quaint cottages and millstreams.

The walk comprises a mix of surfaced tracks and unsurfaced field paths, with a few kissing gates, one stile, and a narrow footbridge. Please note that some of the field paths may be wet and muddy after rain.

This is a much longer walk, again starting from the lovely village of Adderbury but this walk travels north west to join the Oxford Canal Walk.

You will stay on the canal side path for most of the first half of the walk travelling through the beautiful Cherwell Valley where the historic Oxford Canal parallels the beautiful River Cherwell for much of its length. For refreshments stop at the Great Western Arms, Aynho Wharf before travelling on further with your walk.

The second part of the walk takes you through the little village of Clifton (with its 17th century pub The Clifton) and then travels over lovely countryside offering some fine views back to Adderbury.

The fields and paths may be muddy after rain.
