Sutton Valence Walks & Route Maps

This first route is a simple little stroll that is mainly about exploring the village itself.

There is a short loop that leads through some countryside before reaching the striking remains of Sutton Valence Castle, a Norman stronghold built in the 12th century.

There is also a nice pub in the village for refreshments.

This longer Sutton Valence route unfolds through a rich mix of woodland, farmland, and riverside paths, offering a fuller taste of the Kent countryside. It begins with history at Sutton Valence Castle, where the 12th-century ruins still command sweeping views across the Weald.

From there, the trail meanders through the quiet shade of King’s Wood and down towards the peaceful waters of Langley Lock on the Medway Navigation. Later, it joins the Greensand Way, a celebrated long-distance trail tracing ancient sandstone hills.

With a pub or two along the way for a relaxed pause, this epic adventure combines open views, gentle climbs, and a real sense of Kent’s layered past and living landscape.
