Around Hurstwood, it crosses rolling High Weald countryside shaped by farmland and pockets of woodland.
This compact route keeps things relaxed before returning past The Hurstwood pub for refreshments.

First-hand experiences
Attractive walk across fields, through woodland bridleways and country lanes. Pretty views across the weald. Dogs absolutely loved it!! ...The only downside was walking along the boundary edge of horse paddocks where the ground was very churned up and put one rather at risk of twisting their ankles. The public footpaths were also a little difficult to spot, so we relied very heavily on the app to keep us on track at certain points. It is a lovely walk in the drier seasons, but would not recommend in the winter when the ground is wet.

This longer walk builds on the first, linking the Sussex Diamond Way with the 66-mile Vanguard Way, opened in 1981 between Croydon and Newhaven.
The walk goes past Greenhurst Viaduct, a 19th-century brick railway structure from the Hailsham to Eridge line, standing as a reminder of the area’s Victorian engineering past.
The walk concludes back past The Hurstwood pub after a fuller exploration of the surrounding countryside.
