Sussex Walks
These walks from Barcombe Cross offer a wonderful way to explore the Sussex countryside.
The shorter route is a gentle, family-friendly circuit through open fields and a section of Knowlands Wood, finishing at a welcoming village pub.
The longer walk is a more varied adventure, taking in riverside paths along the River Ouse, stretches of woodland, and the villages of Barcombe and Barcombe Mills.
With two lovely pubs along the way and plenty of scenic views, it’s a rewarding way to enjoy both the countryside and local charm.

The second route is the glory walk from Barcombe Cross, but this first route is a nice and simple alternative if you want a short family friendly countryside walk.
The walk is mainly made up of footpaths through open countryside and farmland but there is also a short section of walking through Knowlands Wood. There is then a nice village pub to enjoy in the village after your walk.

The pub at the beginning/end of the walk was closed. It was a Tuesday in April.
Lovely, especially with 2 large heavy dogs....all stiles and gates dog friendly.

This is a wonderful and varied walk in the pretty countryside that you'll find around the village of Barcombe Cross. The walk has a bit of everything including lots of open countryside, a long walk alongside the River Ouse, a short walk through some woodland, a visit to the other villages of Barcombe and Barcombe Mills and two lovely pubs.
One of the pubs is in the Barcombe Cross village high street itself, and the other is a riverside pub about half way around the route. There are also quite a few big stiles on this route that might make it difficult for some dogs.

A footbridge is being repaired so the leg around barcombe mills is shut currently.
Lovely walk in the summer sunshine, well directed from the app, litterally has a bit of everything, river, fields, paths and woods. Great pub for refreshment half way round and at the end. Enjoyed by two humans and one dog, very nice indeed
Walked in December, riverside path was very very muddy, impassable in places.

Absolutely loved this walk although a couple of flaws. Took my Ridgeback with me which caused a couple of issues, had a field with cows in, thankfully the loveliest farmer ever, heard we couldnt get through with the dog so gave me a lift from one side of the field to the other!! My other issue I had was as you walk back up the hill from Barcombe Mills, you’re supposed to head into the field, again due to my 30kg RR I couldnt get her over the stile so unfortunately we had to cut the walk short and go up the main road. We also managed to stop at The Anchor for a cheeky beer which was lovely!! It was so lovely and i’d definitely do again!
Fantastic, beautiful walk. Would not have found it without the app. Took us 3 hours non stop and probably 7 miles rather than 5.5. Some of the stiles are not dog friendly and we actually had to lift our young Labrador over one of them - plus, a couple of them were broken.
Beautiful walk with the dogs and 11 yr old. Took us 3 hrs, rivers on route for dogs to paddle. Really enjoyed it.
I found the walk a little longer than described. 10.5km (6.5m) according to my Fitbit.The pub on the river is called The Anchor Inn. I enjoyed this walk and look forward to doing it again.
