Epsom Downs Walk and Map

We have three lovely walks on Epsom Downs, a stunning area of open grassland located in Surrey, covering 600 acres. Epsom Downs is best known as the home of the Epsom Downs Racecourse and the prestigious Epsom Derby horse race but it is also a fantastic place to walk with a variety of trails and stunning panoramic views of the countryside.

Our walks vary in length from 2.5km to 6.5 km and are circular, all   taking you around the perimeter of the racecourse, offering stunning views of the track and the surrounding countryside. The shorter walk is relatively easy, with gentle inclines and well-maintained paths. Along the way, you'll see several historic landmarks, including the famous Tattenham Corner and the Queen's Stand.

Our longer walk is more hilly and takes you into the Langley Vale Centenary Wood, a 640-acre woodland located in the heart of the Surrey countryside, near the village of Langley Vale. The woodland was created as a living memorial to mark the centenary of the First World War and not only is it one of the largest new woods but it was created by thousands of volunteers who planted over 200,000 trees and shrubs.

Whether you're looking for a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike, walking on Epsom Downs offers a unique and rewarding experience. With its stunning panoramic views, historic landmarks, and diverse wildlife, it's no wonder that this beautiful area of Surrey is a popular destination for walkers and our walks are a great way to explore some of the trails!

Epsom Downs racecourse walk
2.5 miles

This is a lovely short and interesting walk around the public footpaths that go through the Epsom race course. With all of these walks, please check if there is a horse racing event going on at the racecourse before you travel, as the paths will not be accessible then. Refreshments: Tea Hut, Epsom Downs

Epsom Downs extended walk
3.5 miles

If you have a bit more time and energy, then this second route is a simple extension to the first route that takes you further south into the downs, descending a long steep hill and enjoying the nice views of the downs. Because you walk down the big hill, you'll obviously have to walk back up it as well through some nice woodland and this turns this version of the walk into a nice workout as well as a pretty walk.

Epsom Downs longer route
6.5 miles

If you really want a proper workout, then this third route goes even further to the south and deep into the downs offering you a very hilly walk with ups and downs and pretty views. It still enjoys the racecourse and the views of the Epsom downs, but the extra effort will also take you through the Langley Vale Centenary Wood and also visit a nice pub half way around the route for well earned refreshments. Refreshments: Tea Hut, Epsom Downs and The Bell, Walton on the Hill
