Grays Walks & Route Maps

This first route is a basically a short waterside stroll from the car park in Grays.

The main reason to do this one is to pop into the Grays Riverside Park where there is a cafe and a great sand-based play park for the kids to enjoy.

This second route is a nice circular route if you want to explore the interesting area around Grays. It's all on paved easy paths and there's plenty to entertain the kids along the way, so it's a great family walk or a bike ride for the little ones.

You'll first stroll alongside the dramatic Thames River, where there is always something to see and plenty of wildlife, before cutting into the town's High Street where you can visit the pretty church and walk alongside the cemetery.

Next, you'll cut back through a street until you reach a lovely pub aside the River Thames for some half-way refreshments.

Finally, you'll enjoy a paved river-side path back to the start where you can then visit the amazing sand-based play park and cafe.

This final walk is a long and super interesting adventure alongside the dramatic River Thames.

It's a linear walk, so you can obviously walk as far along this one as you feel comfortable with and then walk back (total 18km if you go all the way there and back!).

However, our recommended plan is to follow the path all the way to Purfleet (9km) and then take the short train journey that runs every 30 minutes to get back to Grays where you can then visit the cafe in the sand-based play park or go for lovely lunch in the pub.

Alternatively, you can park in Grays at the start point, hop on the short train to Purfleet and then walk back along the Riverside path, passing the lovely pub as you nearly get back to Grays!

Of course, make sure you check the train times and availability if you're planning to do this.

For wildlife you can expect to see swifts, swallows, gulls and great and black cormorants drying their wings in the sun.
